Media center 12/11/13

So we are starting with our accelerated math practice!!  Do good work.  We are trying to improve those ACT scores but more importantly improve your skills- keep you from having to pay for basic math classes in college!!  After your AM go to www.ixl.com and start with review for our test on Wednesday...go to geometry and do 4 problems in R8, 4 problems from R9, 4 problems from R11, and4 problems from R12.  Then get the review sheet from Mr Zurek.  We will go over this right before the test on Friday.

We are reviewing logs and exponents today starting in the classroom on our pre tests for the first 30 minutes then in the media center lab on IXL and Khan Academy for the last half of the block.

If time is left go to www.khanacademy.org -- create an account using your email or facebook then make Mrs Rumsey your coach by going to assign coach and putting in my email srumzie@yahoo.com  then go to learn and select  math and then Algebra and go down to logarithms then look at choices-videos will be very helpful to you from home but cannot be viewed at schools as they run through youtube.  You want to choose the one with the star evaluating logs to get started.  This is a great place to get more help this weekend before your test next Monday if you still have questions.

We finished going over our notes from Wednesday and then did the last couple of try on your own problems from the packet
then we went to the media center to work on our accelerated math problems.  These AM online problems will help us to be better prepared for our tests as well as for our college entrance requirements for next year.  Hopefully they will save us from having to spend money on remediation classes and will allow us to take the classes we need to get our degrees and move along :)

Laptops and exponent practice 11/6

We will be spending the next two days working online in an effort to better our understanding of use of exponents--in other words you will be able to use exponent properties to solve equations, graph equations, and solve story problems.  Tomorrow we will be working on individual assessments based on the star test we took a week ago in order to better your general math skills and improve your number sense.  So with no further verbage, today:

10/9/13

So far we ave looked at functions and how to tell if something is a function (vertical line test).  We have looked at evaluating functions and composite functions.  We have graphed and written equations for lines, quadratics, square root functions, and absolute value functions.  Today we practiced with all the different types of functions.  We will be testing on unit four next week.  We also have parent teacher conferences next Monday night.  Maybe we will see you there.

Today we are spending half the block in the room working on a review sheet for our test and half the block in the media center working on online review of systems.

Today we did some additional review of our solving systems and made a thinking map for our favorite method :)  Then we branched out into story problems and solved systems when given information in the form a of story problem (sheet with key).  see here to get additional help.  We will be taking a test on Unit 3 (our first test) next week Tuesday :)  tomorrow we will do a review sheet and spend some time in the computer lab in an effort to prepare for our test :)

we finished notes on solving by substitution and elimination (notes) went over our review sheet problems, and then went to the media center (new computer lab) to do some practice on ixl.  If you are doing this from home you can use the login: shsstudent149 password for all is sparta.

If you still have time move to systems of equations and do 5 problems in e2, and five problems from e6 and e8.  Use your time as efficiently as possible.  There are clues etc. available to help you. Welcome Back

Bonjour and welcome to Algebra 2 at SHS.  I am Mrs. Rumsey and I will be your teacher this year.  I have a degree with teacher certification in French and math as well as a Master's degree in Educational Leadership.  I have two daughters at Sparta.  They are both in the Middle School this year :)  We will be learning a ton of new things this year and even have a new schedule.  I am looking forward to getting to know each of you along our journey.  Please see the attached links etc to help you with your learning.  I will be adding links throughout the semester.  We will also post homework and class assignments on this blog should you miss class and need to make up your work.  From time to time we will even post video segments to add in your learning.   I can't wait!!

4/22/13

More mid term exam review practice today.  We are going to take our mid term on Wednesday so we have one last day tomorrow to prepare :)  Please ask questions if you have them!!

4/17/13

Today was test day for Chap 4.  First block had 20 kids with A's and 3 with B's and had a class average of 86.6 percent!!  great job!!  2nd block had 19 A's 4 B's and 3 C's with a class average of over 87%  very impressive.  We are in the process of starting our mid term review...(about a week later than planned due to early snow days and testing).  We will take our Mid term exam early next week and then have just a couple of chapters left and some projects before the final exam.  We may even take our mid term the Friday before Memorial Day to get it out of the way and then just do projects our last two weeks.  More to come as we see how long it takes us to cover the rest of our material.  All grades on updated on Powerschool if you would like to see how you did

4/15/13 Circle notes and review

Today we did our last section of notes for Chap 4.  Our test will likely be this Wednesday :) Circle notes circle practice sheet review #2 (coming soon).  We also went over some review together.  Tomorrow we will continue to review and then our test day:)    be sure to start studying!!

Still reviewing for our test on Thursday!!  Today we reviewed together all of our info together(review) and then we did the rest of 5.7 worksheet --see classmate for specific problems.  We also did a review which is verymuch like our test on Thursday (review sheet) (all of it :).  Remember if you have any questions you need to ask asap!!

Today we made thinking maps for our exp and log properties using our log and exp notes.  We did a couple of worksheets for these topics as well (sheet one) (sheet two) (sheet three 2nd block only). Both Due on Tuesday.  We will plan to test over exponents and logs this week Thursday please plan to get help before the test either after school on Tuesday or Wednesday or at reading time on Tuesday.  I am also available during c lunch if you need help let me know.

Today we did several more notes on exponents (notes) and worked on two more worksheets (worksheets) all still in an effort to be best prepared for our ACT test next Tuesday.  Reminder that only Juniors need to come to school next Tuesday, Freshmen, Sophomores, and Seniors get the day off :).  Remember that there are lots of practice ACT questions and tips available online
Remember to have good batteries and pencils for testing!!

Hello!!  Today we started with our ACT prep questions (less than two weeks away :/)  We also looked at a website with ACT tips and practice tests (that are free)  (website link).
We also took notes on exponent rules (page one) (page two) and did two work sheets (one) (two).  on 5.1 we did 1a,d,h and on 5.2 we did 1a,h,l 2 a,b,d,g,k, 3 a,b,e and 4 a,e,g.  Have a great day off tomorrow and I will see you on Monday!  FYI if you din't check our tests for 8/10 are in power school :)

Today we spent the entire hour preparing for our tests Monday.  We went over the answers for the practice tes/review together and then worked on missing assignments and passed back papers.  Key for practice test.

2/6/13

today we did a lot of review.  First we reviewed our graphs with a matching (exercise).  Then we either did a batman trig (sheet) or the rad/degrees (sheet) and we finished up with the pre test for our test. (pre test)(key).  We will be testing over this material on Monday.  Tomorrow we will do more review.  Friday we will be in the media center computer lab doing even more review.  Monday we will test :)

2/5/13

Today we took a boat load of notes today (notes).  We also did a handout (1st hour handout) (2nd block handout).  Tomorrow we will be doing a lot of review and we are planning to test on Thursday.  Please get help if you need it before Thursday.

2/4/13 Happy February

In case you missed it the ground hog is predicting an early spring.  I personally hope he is right lol.  I could use some warm sunshine right about now!!  Today we reviewed soh cah toa and law of sines and cosines.  We went out in the building and a few of us even ventured outside to find the heights of items around our school.  We then came back to the room to calculate the trig functions necessary to finish our measurements.  If you were not here today you will be doing an alternate assignment so see me directly to get the handout for absent students.  We will be turning in those measurements as soon as you are able to complete them.  We are hoping to test over our trig material on Thursday.  Please plan accordingly and ask questions as soon as possible.  I am available to help during reading time on Tuesday or before school any day this week.  I can also stay after on Thursday if needed.  Let me know if you need extra help!!

2/1/13 Practice

Today we spent most of the hour reviewing the topics we studeied this week.  (review notes)  We practiced law of cosines and then did a handout on law of sines/cosines that we are turning in.  (handout side one and two).  Monday we will be out measuring things and working our way through some hands on applications of the properties of trig.  Have a wonderful weekend!!

1/31/13--February already

Today we started with some ACT practice problems and then did a review of the law of sines.  (Review sheet).  Then we finished the hour with notes on the law of cosines (notes).  Tomorrow we will be working on more trig review and working on angles of elevation and depression.  Have a great Thursday!!

Closing out first semester and starting up second

I always struggle at semester time.  I love the change and getting to meet new students but I don't really like to say good bye to mine classes from first semester.  On the bright side we are half way through the year already!!  Wow that went really really quickly.  If you are new to the blog.  Welcome.  Please become a follower.  It is worth 5 points of extra credit to you!!  We will be using the blog this semester to post assignments, video links, and more.  If you have any questions please ask!!  Hope this is your best semester at Sparta High yet!!
